STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The purpose of the Indiana News Photographers Association Multimedia Contest is to recognize the importance of multimedia works in photojournalism. Pieces should endeavor to use multimedia in order to tell a story with more depth and bring a greater understanding to the viewer then possible with a single media presentation.
ELIGIBILITY
I. DEFINITION OF MEMBERS IN GOOD STANDING
INPA members in good standing are eligible to enter the contest. A member in good standing is someone who has paid his or her dues and lives in Indiana or works for an Indiana-based news organization. If you were a member in good standing during the calendar year preceding the contest entry deadline date (2015) but have since moved, you may enter by paying a contest entry fee equal to annual dues, currently $35. This is good for entry into the INPA POY/Multimedia contest only.
II. ELIGIBLE WORK
Multimedia pieces produced and published between January 1 and December 31 of the year proceeding the contest entry date (2015) are eligible for entry in the contest. Only multimedia pieces produced while a resident of Indiana or while employed by an Indiana-based news organization are eligible for entry. Pieces must contain two or more media elements (sound, video, still pictures, interactivity, etc.). A video with audio is eligible. Photo-only slideshows are not eligible. Piece may be the work of one or more persons, but may only be entered once.
RULES
I. ETHICS
Entrants certify that they practice ethical photojournalism, and subscribe, whether an NPPA member or not, to the principles outlined in the NPPA Code of Ethics.
II. NUMBER OF ENTRIES
Entrants may enter up to three multimedia pieces. A piece may be the work of one or more persons, but may only be entered once.
III. LENGTH AND SIZE OF ENTRIES
Please be considerate of the judges time if editing pieces specifically for this contest. We would suggest a maximum of five minutes per piece. It is highly recommended that pieces be no larger than 100 MB in size. This will allow smoother upload to Dropbox.
IV. PARTICIPATION
A minimum of three people must enter for the contest to be judged.
V. ANONYMITY
A multimedia entry will include neither the name(s) nor affiliation of entrants. Unlike years past, participants will upload a copy of the piece to a Dropbox allowing the removal of name(s) and affiliation.
VI. DEADLINE
All entries must be uploaded by Monday, February 8, 2016 (02/08/2016), at noon Eastern Standard Time. All entries must be uploaded by the deadline. Deadline extensions will not be given. Late entries will not be accepted.
VII. DISCLAIMER
Entrants who do not follow the rules will be disqualified. INPA will take every precaution in handling entries, but cannot be responsible for loss, damage or non-receipt of entries.
VIII. JUDGING
The contest will have three judges as selected by the annual contest chairman. Judges will view entries in advance, and choose finalists to be viewed (bandwidth allowing) during judging. Judging is open, which means spectators are invited to watch and listen as the judges make their determinations. Spectators must not talk to the judges or make loud comments, which could be overheard by the judges. After each category is judged, spectators are encouraged to ask questions and discuss the category with the judges, only in general terms. Discussion of specific multimedia pieces should be held until all judging is complete.
ENTRY SUBMISSION
The entry period has ended. The winner will be selected during the annual contest, Feb. 19-20, 2016.
