Colts Nation
When Lucas Oil Stadium is packed, there are 63,000 people with 63,000
stories. From a 3-year-old climbing up to his seat for the first time
to the “Super Fan” preparing for his weekly trip. The staff of the
Indianapolis Star documented a day in the life of some of the most
faithful and craziest Colts fans throughout the state of Indiana during
Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, December 13, 2009.

Colts “Super Fan” Michael Hopson, 54 of Indianapolis, finishes his
transformation as he puts on his shoulder pads before Sunday’s game
against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, December 13, 2009. Hopson makes
the transformation from a mild mannered Kroger employee to a fanatic
outfitted “Super Fan” for each and every Colts home game. “Spread a lot
of love, a lot of blue love all around,” said Hopson.

1. Hard Life
A benefit CD for the Shalom Community Center, a day center for homeless
people, was written by Kent Johnson and performed by a variety of local
musicians. Johnson’s songs are based on his experiences with
homelessness, especially “Hard Life”.

2. Bus Stop Arm Violators
Indiana State Police ride a school bus to catch drivers who continue
past a stopped school bus with its stop-arm extended.

3. Kiss A Goat

Summit Elementary School principal and teachers kiss a goat, to the
delight of the students.

4. Indianapolis 500 Centennial Year
A time lapse movie of various moments shot at the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway during May 2009, the first year of a multi-year celebration of
the historical track and its 100th birthday.

5. Kokomo Arboretum
A time lapse movie showing the passage of a year at the Kokomo
Arboretum in 2009.

8. Pit Bull Attack
68-year-old Brenda Hill was attacked by two pit bulls while taking out
her trash and eventually had to have her right leg amputated after
unsuccessful attempts to save it.

Anderson High School’s historic basketball gymnasium called the Wigwam
could possibly be closed due to lack of funding in a city that has been
hit hard by the financial downturn sweeping across the nation.

10. Former POW still haunted by experiences in Korea Part 1
Jack Blair of Bloomington was a prisoner of war for 28 months, from May
1951 until August 1953, during the Korean War. He tells the story about
being a POW and the struggles he had after coming home.

12. Jawn Purdue
Indiana University revives burial of ‘Ole Jawn Purdue’ the night
before the annual IU football game against Purdue University.

13. United Way Fire
A Christmas Eve fire destroyed the Bartholomew County United Way
building leaving over 30 social agencies without a workspace.

14. Anderson Falls
About park in Bartholomew County that features a waterfall and walking
trails.

15. Flood anniversary
June of this year marked the one year anniversary of a flood that
caused a lot of damage.  This piece looks back over that one year
period.

16. The Death of Jeremiah Williams

17. Marian College & IUPUI students travel to the Dominican Republic
El Colibri, Inc. travels to Haina, Dominican Republic to help a school

21. Couple weds in race with cancer
Cristy Merrill and Byron Robinson had been planning a June wedding.
Worried that Cindy might lose her battle with cancer before summer
arrived, the two wed this past Friday at the Central Community Chapel
in Anderson.
