Winners

F-Feature 1st Place 50 Points
Photographer: Sarah Ann Jump/The Herald
Image:F_sajj_01
Judges Comments:
A strange moment from what could have been an otherwise routine assignment. The barrel shapes helped the composition.

F-Feature 2nd Place 40 Points
Photographer: Jenna Watson, The Indianapolis Star
Image:f_jrwi_03
Judges Comments:
A funny moment that you don’t see every day helped this photo stand above other images in this category. A good find by the photographer.

F-Feature 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: AJ Mast, Independent Photojournalist

Judges Comments:
A nice graphic image where the photographer took a different perspective.

The clear winner. A great perspective, good composition, and terrific color.

GN-General_News 2nd Place 40 Points
Photographer: Mykal McEldowney, The Indianapol

Judges Comments:
A descriptive caption, a good moment, and some nuanced visual storytelling in this image.

GN-General_News 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Sarah Ann Jump/The Herald
Image:GN_sajj_01
Judges Comments:
There is a lot going on in this photo without it being cluttered, from the great mix of light and color to the moment and the outstretched arms of the figure in the center. Again, an accurate caption that identified those pictured also helped elevate this image. We think it would be a little stronger with a slight crop from the top.

Multiple_Entry 1st Place 50 Points
Photographer: Sam Householder
Image:mb_sehe_01
Judges Comments:
The strongest entry in a weak category, the photographer was thorough in their coverage of the event.

Multiple_Entry 2nd Place 40 Points
Photographer: Joseph C. Garza/Tribune-Star
Image:ma_jcgt_01
Judges Comments:
This entry could have benefited from more visual variety.

Multiple_Entry 3rd Place 30 Points
Photographer: Mykal McEldowney, The Indianapol
Image:ma_mcmi_01
Judges Comments:
This was the most visually interesting of all the entries, but the captions were lacking. Individuals pictured were not identified, and the blanket caption used on most photos was not a complete sentence. Thorough captions are vital to photojournalism.

A great reaction photo, and the dust in the air helps elevate this image.

This is a nice moment, but it would have been ranked higher with a tighter crop.
